How to Apply Eye Liner Pencil

When people first try to use an eye liner pencil, it can seem extremely difficult and fiddly to get a good line from the pencil. However, it is worth sticking with the pencil and getting some practice in, as eye liner can look eye catching and striking when done right. Here we help you to use your eye liner pencil effectively, and help you to get a perfect line.
• When you choose your eye liner pencil, make sure that you are first happy with the way that it draws. Some people prefer harder lines; others prefer softer leaded pencils which allow for a more smudgy line. A softer pencil is often advised as this will make drawing the line quicker. Similarly, make sure your pencil is sharpened into a point that you are happy with. A blunt pencil will draw a thicker line, and vice versa. Test out your pencil on the back of your hand to make sure that you are completely happy before you start.
• When holding the pencil, simply hold it as you would do a normal pencil. Use your writing hand, resting the elbow on a surface if you are able to to give you more support.
• With your other hand, stretch your eyelid away from the inner eye. This will allow you to have a straighter line to draw along with the pencil.
• Draw a line along your upper eyelid just above your eyelashes. This line can be as thick as you want; experimentation is the key to discovering what sort of line you prefer. Lines tend to run to the outer edge of the eye. How far into the eye you go with the line is up to you. Try not to put too much pressure on the pencil, the skin of the eyes is delicate and may be pulled by the pencil.
• On the lower eyelid, you can draw a line either above or below the eyelashes, or in fact on both. Either look is striking, although it may be fair to say that drawing above the eyelashes takes a steady hand.
