What is Seborrheic dermatitis, cause and cures of Seborrheic dermatitis
Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin inflammation that can occur at any age. It is a chronic skin problem which is produces an eczema type break out around the head of around the upper torso. This chronic skin inflammation is also popular as the term Seborrhea. The thing about Seborrheic dermatitis is not certain it can become better or go towards being worse spontaneously. Seborrheic dermatitis makes people suffer a lot as it is right on the face and there is no way of hiding it. If one is an actor and working on the show business it becomes terrible to deal with it every day. Normal life gets interrupted due to the outrageous break out of the skin inflammation. People who suffered from acne vulgaris can empathize with people suffering from Seborrheic dermatitis.
Truth about Seborrheic dermatitis is, it can occur in any age, even if you are only 15 years old, it can happen to you. Sometimes even babies get Seborrheic dermatitis. People in their 70s may also get Seborrheic dermatitis. There is really no age limit for Seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis can be treatable with medicines and ointments. But sadly is it not 100% curable. Meaning you would have to keep it under treatment in order to minimize the problem. Exacerbations and spontaneous remissions are two characteristics of Seborrheic dermatitis.

The risk factors of seborrheic dermatitis
Seborrheic dermatitis is incurable but highly treatable as we know. The patients undergoing Seborrheic dermatitis are more or less healthy. They do not find it difficult to live a normal life. They can do anything just like a normal human being. But diagnosis have proved that Seborrheic dermatitis have association with diseases like AIDS and any disease which deals with our central nervous system.
What are the causes of seborrheic dermatitis?
The reasoning behind seborrheic dermatitis is rather ambiguous. Seborrheic dermatitis usually occurs around the heavy sebum production areas. Some experts claim it can be due to having oily skin. People suffering from Seborrheic dermatitis grow a skin yeast namely Pityrosporum or Malassezia on their affected region. It is still not proved whether the skin yeast is forming there due to oily skin or not. The microorganism which later turns out to be seborrheic dermatitis can be a fact or can be a coincident.
Some deem seborrheic dermatitis as a fungal condition because seborrheic dermatitis can be improved by using ointments and medications that usually is used in fungal situations. However, just because fungal medicines work in improving the condition of seborrheic dermatitis patients, does not prove seborrheic dermatitis as a fungal disease. If it was a fungal disease, it would have been completely curable, but that is not the case with seborrheic dermatitis.
Symptoms and signs of seborrheic dermatitis
In seborrheic dermatitis you would get a rash that would be scaling and reddish in color. It becomes oozy and weepy sometimes. If the patient is in advance state of seborrheic dermatitis then the patient would face dandruff. The spreading of the rash explains a lot about the state or stage the patient is in right now. It also determines the level while diagnosing. The doctor predetermines a lot of the things just by looking at the distribution of the rash.
Among adults, the distribution happens around the outer ear, the forehead, the eyelids, the scalp the brows, the cheeks around the nose, the armpits, the side of the mouth, mid back regions and the mid chest.
Among children and infants, the distribution happens around the scalp area, it is also called the “cradle cap”. Some babies have the rash around the diaper region.
In both adults and babies, the rash has no previous signs of symptoms. After you get seborrheic dermatitis, it may only itch. Before you actually get the visible visual of the rash, itching is your only key to detect that you have a problem.

How is seborrheic dermatitis diagnosed?
To diagnose seborrheic dermatitis clinically the doctor first looks at the distribution. By the appearance of seborrheic dermatitis the doctor decides what treatment would be valid next. If the doctor thinks there can be more than just seborrheic dermatitis, the doctor would scrape out a skin scale and examine it with potassium hydroxide in a microscope. This examination is done to exclude any fungal infection. If the condition is very severe, then a skin biopsy is required. Although doing a skin biopsy is a very rare care in seborrheic dermatitis.
How to treat seborrheic dermatitis?
Different area of rash distribution needs different treatments. Like the area of scalp, and hair bearing areas are treated using a shampoo. Shampoos containing, antifungal antibiotic, selenium sulfide, Tar, Zinc pyrithione is usually used. Sometimes steroid lotion is prescribed.
To treat the area that are non hair bearing, topical antifungal ointment, or potent topical steroid cream is advised. Seborrheic dermatitis is treatable and controllable, but not curable 100%. So make sure to use the ointments and medications that are prescribed by your doctors. If one stops the medications by seeing some improvements on the skin, than the rash may recur. So the best solution would be to keep using the products that actually helps. There are several expensive creams and lotions available for seborrheic dermatitis, but the wise thing to do would is find a reasonable priced solution as you would have to use it all the time.
What are complications of seborrheic dermatitis?
A disastrous outcome can occur if seborrheic dermatitis is mistreated. Sometime fungal infections are mistaken as seborrheic dermatitis. It is very important that to distinguish the two otherwise if a fungal infection is treated with anti inflammatory steroids then undesirable skin problems may occurs. The overdose of topical steroids to cure fungal infections in areas like the armpits and the face can cause skin damage.
